We carry out world-class research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer. Here are just a few of our recent achievements.

Improvements for prostate cancer treatment

Our researchers are leading the STAMPEDE trial, which is looking at new combinations of treatments for advanced prostate cancer.

Results so far have already shown that adding the drug abiraterone to hormone therapy at the start of treatment could improve survival by 37%. These findings have led to a change in the way we treat people with this disease.

New drug for children & young people approved by the NHS

A drug we helped trial that protects the hearing of babies, children and young people undergoing cancer treatment, will now be offered on the NHS for the first time.

Research has shown that it halves the number of children who suffer from long-term hearing loss during chemotherapy.

A new discovery in breast cancer

Our researchers have discovered that breast cancer cells feed on their support network when they don’t have enough nutrients to grow.

This discovery could open the door for new methods of treatment that stop breast cancer cells in their tracks.
